Adding value everywhere

When you say Twence, you say innovative waste processor that recycles as many valuable raw materials as possible from waste and biomass. Twence also produces sustainable energy in the form of heat, electricity and green gas. Not convinced yet? Then these examples might be more appealing. The development of a regional heat network that offers a sustainable alternative to natural gas for 100,000 homes. A well-known brewery uses sustainable energy in the form of hot water. And a solar park generates energy for thousands of households. CO2 is captured and stored or reused in sustainable carbon cycles. Bottom ash is processed into cycle paths, reducing the need for new raw materials. And valuable raw materials and energy are extracted from manure and organic waste, which can be reused. In short, Twence is constantly working to make society more sustainable. Xolv is delighted to be working with this innovative company!

Marloes Leferink, Financial Administration, and Joost Mekenkamp, Group Controller, are among the many colleagues who have been working at Twence for quite some time. Marloes: “I've been working here for eighteen years and I still find my work challenging. We never stand still; Twence continues to innovate, which is what makes my work so enjoyable. I never work on autopilot. In this way, the company makes an important contribution to reducing the use of fossil fuels and avoiding CO₂ emissions.2.Joost adds: ”I have been working at Twence for fifteen years and am also extremely proud of this company. Twence plays a key role in the transition from a linear to a circular economy and in the regional energy transition. The company is owned by the fourteen municipalities of Twente and the municipality of Berkelland in the Achterhoek region. As Group Controller, I keep track of overall overview of the financial position and cash flows. I look back, but also forward, of course. In addition, I ensure that all tax aspects are taken care of. Twence is a wonderful company to work for, especially because we all contribute to a more sustainable world every day. I see my job as almost like walking around in a candy factory; there are so many financial and tax activities coming together, there is always something going on.”

The preliminary phase is important

Xolv has also been involved with Twence for quite some time. Seven years ago, Xolv partner Jeroen came to visit, and one thing led to another.

Joost: “What Xolv does, we also do ourselves to some extent; we constantly monitor our debtors. It's nice to have an extra pair of eyes watching. Eyes that see things differently than we do. Through them, we have credit insurance, which we've never really needed.”

Marloes: “But it's about the process leading up to that. It's nice to be able to carry out a check at the outset to better assess whether we are running any risks and, if so, what kind.”  Joost nods in agreement and adds to Marloes's comment: “The collaboration is great. Xolv takes a proactive approach, visiting us every so often to discuss various reports. It's always better to talk face to face.” Marloes: “That way, more issues naturally come up for discussion. It's not so easy to do that with a report sent by email.”
